If you are an aspiring actor, I am sure that at one time or another you have gone into an audition, you have realized that you weren’t prepared well enough and could have done better at your preparation. Every teen actor and every parent of a child actor that I know has expressed this to me over the years.
Well, there are some things that you can do to prepare properly and come out of every audition that you have taken part in feeling as though you had done your best. This should be the primary focus of any actor attending any audition. Here are some things that you should keep in mind and take into account that will help you prepare properly and feel great after all your auditions. Follow them each time and you will feel like a winner, even if you don’t get the part.- You must become familiar and lean as much as you can about the requirements that must be met during the audition. This needs to be done before you go to the audition and make sure to practice really hard.- When choosing your monologues, make sure that they are age appropriate.- When you enter the audition room, make sure that you have good eye contact with the individual(s) who are watching you. You should also greet them warmly and try to establish a good relationship with them from the get go.- Be relaxed, smile a lot, and make sure to be yourself.- Before you begin, make sure to introduce yourself and let the panel know the material that you will be performing. -Memorize the names of the people that authored your selection. Knowing this will show that you pay attention to details and are dedicated.-Take time to pause in between each piece, if you are required to do more than one. Make sure to practice before you head to your audition to make sure that you will stay within the allotted time frame.- Be sure to take time to research and understand the play from which your monologue is chosen. This is so you are well prepared if you are asked questions about the show.- When you are finished with your audition, your must always remember to thank every person who has been a part of your experience. You should smile and pause for a moment incase they have any additional instructions for you, but make sure not to linger too long.If you also keep in mind that every audition that you take part in is a job interview, you will better prepare yourself to handle anything that is thrown at you. Take advantage to demonstrate your talents and personal characteristics. Auditioning is a huge part of an actors life, take it seriously, have fun, and you will do very well.- TRU Talent Management
